Hammers

A hammer is a great tool to have in your arsenal whether you need to use it for nails or demolition. Make sure you get a hammer with a comfortable grip and the right size head for the job. If you are using it for demolition, you will want to make sure you get something much larger than if you were just using it on nails.

Screwdriver Set

While screwdrivers are a common tool to have on hand, it is important that you have an entire set. You can also buy screwdrivers with magnetic heads, which can make it much easier to use in strange angles where the screw might fall out.

Wrenches

Make sure that you have a set of wrenches in your toolbox. These will help with all your hex nuts and bolts. Making sure you buy adjustable wrenches will ensure that you are never without the right size wrench.

Drill

A drill will be one of the most used tools in your arsenal. While corded drills do exist, it will be likely that you end up with a cordless drill. Make sure that you keep the battery charged as much as possible.

Step Stool/Ladder

You will often need to reach high places in your home to replace lightbulbs and clean roof gutters. Investing in a sturdy step stool/ladder is key to making sure you can complete these activities safely.

Level

If you are installing appliances or hanging items on your wall you will need a level. This cheap purchase will keep help you determine if what you are hanging or installing is even on all sides.

Knife

A heavy-duty utility knife is invaluable. This can cut boxes, carpet, or wire. Make sure that you get a utility knife that retracts and can lock the blade.
